J.H.Pilates

Joseph Hubertus Pilates, the founder of the Pilates Method, suffered from asthma, rickets,
rheumatic fever and various other ailments as a child. To improve his physical condition,
he began studying different exercise regimens. As he worked on improving
his own method he eventually developed into a gymnast and a bodybuilder.

During the First World War at the Lancaster Castle internment camp
Joseph Pilates continued working on his exercise concept and trained other
internees in his exercise system.
He attached springs to headboards and
footboards of hospital beds, enabling his patients to exercise against resistance.

The hospital bed apparatus became the “Cadillac”.

The integrated, comprehensive system of physical exercise that Joseph H. Pilates
developed came to be named “Contrology”.
Contrology is a complete coordination of
body, mind, and spirit. It develops the body, invigorates the mind, and elevates the spirit.
An important component of Pilates is how it engages the mind and body.
While practicing Pilates, a person is required to perform movements correctly
and achieve full body awareness. This comes about by breathing properly, performing
the exercises according to instructions, and paying close attention to engage
every muscle in the body in order to accomplish smoothness and fluidity.

At BODY MODE we offer the Pilates industry’s gold standard – The STOTT PILATES® method.

STOTT PILATES® is a contemporary, anatomically based approach to Joseph Pilates’s
original exercising method. The refined method incorporates modern principles of
exercise science making it one of the safest and most effective methods.
